You can either log in with email on OpenSea, or bring your own crypto wallet. To learn more about logging in with email, visit the Getting Started section of our Help Center. If you want to bring your own crypto wallet, such as MetaMask, follow the steps below.
1. Install a crypto wallet
A crypto wallet, such as MetaMask, stores your ETH and processes transactions on the Ethereum blockchain. A unique wallet address will be generated for you, and you'll use this address to complete transactions.
Watch our tutorial to learn how to install a crypto wallet to connect with OpenSea.
All transactions connected to your wallet address can be viewed in your self-custodial wallet, or on the blockchain explorer for the chain you’re using, such as Etherscan. It's a good idea to check Etherscan after completing each transaction.
Why do I need a wallet before buying and selling using OpenSea?
OpenSea is a tool you use to interact with the blockchain. We never take possession of your items or store your NFTs. Instead, we provide a system for peer-to-peer exchanges of items. Since you’ll be using OpenSea to interact directly with others on the blockchain, you’ll need a wallet to help you turn your actions in the browser into transactions on the blockchain. You can see the available wallets in our help center guide, What crypto wallets can I use with OpenSea?
Now that you have a crypto wallet installed, you can connect to OpenSea and log in.
2. Connect to OpenSea
Let's connect your wallet to OpenSea and edit your profile so you're ready to begin exploring, buying, and selling NFTs. Navigate to opensea.io and click Login.
You'll then be prompted to connect your wallet. Select your desired wallet provider from the list. Follow the prompts in your wallet and on your screen to connect.
If you'd like to change your username, navigate to your profile and click the three-dot menu on the right side of the screen and select Settings.
Here you can also customize your bio, add an email address for notifications and marketing purposes, upload a profile photo, and more.
If you ever log in and your profile is blank and missing any items you own, make sure you’ve connected with the correct wallet.
The heart of OpenSea is exploring items. Learn more in our Help Center guide about how to search. Enjoy buying, selling, and creating NFTs using OpenSea!
3. Purchase digital currency
You can buy cryptocurrency from a digital currency exchange like Coinbase. You'll need cryptocurrency to "mint" an NFT, purchase an NFT, and for gas fees to complete transactions. Learn more about gas fees in our What are gas fees? help guide.
You can also buy cryptocurrency with a credit card once you’re signed into OpenSea. Learn more about adding funds with a card here.
