In this article, we share minimum requirements to apply for verification and badging.
Account verification helps community members find authentic creators and identify content that belongs to them.
A blue checkmark badge on an account means that the account has been successfully verified by OpenSea.
A blue checkmark badge on a collection means the collection belongs to a verified account and has significant interest or sales.
You can learn more about account verification and collection badge eligibility below, as well as how to apply. Please note that account verification and collection badging determinations are based on the eligibility requirements and criteria at the time of our review, and these requirements may change from time to time.
OpenSea’s requirements for verification and badging have changed over time in response to community feedback, market conditions, and other factors, and may change again in the future. A blue checkmark or badge does not guarantee that an account or collection meets any specific requirements, and you should always do your own research before transacting.
In addition, the provision of a blue checkmark or badge is not guaranteed, even if you meet the minimum requirements set out below. If our criteria change, we will not necessarily re-review badged collections or verified accounts or remove a previously-issued badge or checkmark, but we may do so at any time at our sole discretion. Please see our Terms of Service for more information.
For our current minimum eligibility requirements, read more below.
Minimum requirements to apply for verification & badging
Accounts that own one or more collections with at least 25 ETH of volume sold (or equivalent) and meet other criteria like minimum activity levels and social media presence are eligible to apply for verification.
If you’re eligible, you’ll see a banner on your account page directing you to apply in the Verification & Badging section of your settings. This section will only appear to users who meet minimum eligibility criteria to apply.
If your account is approved for a checkmark, all eligible collections will automatically be reviewed for badging. Creators don’t need to separately apply for collection badging.
Minimum eligibility criteria to apply
To be eligible to apply, your account must have at minimum:
A username
A profile picture and banner image
A verified email address
A connected, active, and affiliated social media presence
Ownership of at least one collection with:
At least 25 ETH (or equivalent) of secondary volume sold
Mint sales volume is not included
A title
A banner
A logo image
An affiliated, connected, and active Twitter, Instagram, or Discord server or a Farcaster link in the collection description
All collection items minted/revealed
Please keep in mind that these are our minimum requirements to apply, and approval is not guaranteed. Some accounts and collections that are initially eligible to apply may not receive a badge; see the What we review after receiving your application section below. We’re continuing to look for ways to expand eligibility to more accounts and provide as much transparency as we can about verification decisions.
In some cases, accounts and collections may be approved for verification and badging even if they don’t meet all the above criteria. For example, we may proactively badge partner collections, even if they do not meet the minimum requirements listed here. Reach out via our Partners page if you’re interested in partnering with us!
How to apply for verification & badging
Here’s how to apply:
1. Navigate to the Verification and badging section of your settings. Generally, this section only appears if your account meets the minimum eligibility requirements.
2. Make sure to complete your profile and supply any missing information on your collections. Click the three-dot menu under Review status to see what you need to complete.
3. Once you’ve completed your profile and any missing items on your collections, click Submit for review.
Your review will show as In progress under Review status while our customer support team reviews your request, and you’ll receive a decision soon, typically within seven days. You can also see the review decision in your profile settings.
If your account is verified, your username, email address, and social connections fields in your profile will be locked for security purposes. You'll need to contact our support team in order to make changes to a verified account profile.
After your account is verified, your eligible collections will be badged, and new collections that you create will automatically be sent for badging review.
If your account is reviewed by our customer support team and isn’t granted verification, you can re-apply for another review after 7 days.
What we review after receiving your application
After you submit your application, we will review whether you meet the minimum eligibility criteria.
Then, we will complete a trust and safety review of your account and any collections. For more information about how content moderation works on OpenSea, you can visit our Help Center guides. We may deny a checkmark, badging, or moderate your collection or account if we identify a possible violation of our Terms of Service.
Finally, we will look to see if the collection activity is organic. We do this by reviewing the following areas:
Unique purchases by buyers in the last 30 days
No significant inorganic sales volume
Organic owner to item ratio
We may deny badging if we believe the creator has artificially inflated collection buying and selling volume.
If your collection appears to be inspired by an existing badged collection, our customer support team may tag your collection as an “inspired by” collection in order to be badged. More information can be found in our Help Center guide.
Loss of verification
We reserve the right to decline account verification or collection badging, or remove account verification and collection badging, for any reason, including violation of our Terms of Service.
